Name: Eunice Tay
Age: 31
Occupation: Rugby Development Manager (Women)

Sport before rugby?
I was playing touch rugby and soccer for my school.

Why and how did you get into playing Rugby?
I joined the national team in 2001 and was talent spotted by my coach when I was playing in a rugby tournament in 2000. I was attracted to the game as it is very fun and required lots of thinking.

How does rugby differ from your previous sport?
The only difference is that in rugby we can tackle. I fell in love with rugby once I started playing. I love the teamwork and the tackling (which is not allowed in other games).

Do you agree when people say that rugby is a men's game?
No. A lot of women are playing rugby now and the standard is the same. Some people think that women's rugby is an adapted version of the men's game but it is not - we play 15s, 10s, and 7s, with the same amount of aggression as the men!

What did you find the hardest to adapt to, when you took on rugby?
The hardest thing is that you need to be fit to enjoy the game. The kind of fitness we do is crazy. People always have the misconception that rugby is dangerous. I have been playing for almost 10 years and only suffered a minor ankle injury, thankfully. Other than that, lots of cuts, bruises, scratches and the occassional muscle strains.

Describe your first experience with rugby.
It was love at first sight!!!

The lowest moment of your rugby experience…
Is whenever I have a bad game...

The proudest moment of your rugby career…
When I was selected to represent Singapore in 2001...

How much do you love rugby? If you had a choice to represent Singapore in another sport, what would it be?
I love rugby so much, that I chose to make it my career. I will still choose to play rugby for Singapore!
